Rich Gossage was claimed off waivers by the Yankees, five years after the 38-year-old reliever ended a stormy tenure with New York by telling owner George Steinbrenner he would not be returning.

“Goose is very happy to be coming back to the Yankees,” agent Jerry Kapstein said.

Earlier this week, Yankees Manager Dallas Green said he wondered if Gossage would be of any use to his club after being released last Friday by the San Francisco Giants.
