College Roundup : Titan Volleyball Team Sweeps Loyola
Stephanie Scofield had 18 kills and five blocks as Cal State Fullerton swept Loyola Marymount, 15-5, 15-3, 15-12, Saturday in a nonconference women’s volleyball match at Fullerton.
Setter Stephanie Shriver had 32 assists for the Titans (1-1) and kept the Lions off-balance. Besides Scofield, three Titan players had 11 or more kills: Rachel Whittliff (14), Susan Herman (13) and Tammy Miller (11).
Sabrina Dennis, who had eight blocks, and Angela Lightfoot, who had seven digs, led the Fullerton defense.
Loyola Marymount is 0-2.
In other nonconference games:
Southern California College 3, Cal State Hayward 0--Susan Dueker and Krista Hoober each had seven kills as the Vanguards (2-1) swept, 15-8, 15-11, 15-6, at Cal State Hayward. Hoober also had three solo blocks and assisted on nine others. Dueker had three blocks and four digs.
UC Irvine 3, Boise State 2--Kim Collins had a career-high 26 kills as UC Irvine (1-0) rallied for a 8-15, 16-14, 10-15, 15-7, 15-1 victory at Irvine. Ali Wood had 23 kills for the Anteaters.
In California Conference action:
Pacific Christian 3, California Christian 0--Julie Berg had six kills as Pacific Christian (2-0) swept, 15-1, 15-2, 15-0, at West Coast Christian College in Fresno.
Pacific Christian 3, West Coast Christian 0--Amberlyn Davis had six kills as Pacific Christian swept, 15-0, 15-4, 15-4.
In nonconference men’s soccer:
Chapman 1, Westmont 1--Westmont’s Justin Wall scored with four minutes remaining to tie the match at Westmont. Wall took a pass and split the the Chapman defense, then beat goalie Kerri Below to the right. Chapman (0-0-1) took a 1-0 lead seven minutes into the match when Jeff Hudson scored off a pass from Fabrizio Soto. Bellow had six saves. Westmont is 0-0-1.
