Camarillo’s Kirksey to Miss Season After Opting for Surgery on Knee

Share

Kris Kirksey will not play football this season. The Camarillo High running back who rushed for 670 yards in a little more than six games as a sophomore has decided to forgo his junior season in favor of arthroscopic surgery on his right knee. Kirksey sustained torn ligaments in the Scorpions’ seventh game in 1988.

Kirksey did not practice with Camarillo for much of the summer, choosing instead to rehabilitate his knee on his own while awaiting the arrival of a special brace. The brace, however, did not provide enough support.

“It’s really unstable,” Kirksey said. “I feel really clumsy when I’m running.

“I’m definitely hoping for next year. That’s the only thing that’s keeping me going with this thing.”

Kirksey said that he would have surgery within the next two months. In the meantime he will prepare for baseball season.

“I’m very disappointed,” he said, “especially since my brother is up to the varsity now.”

Tim Kirksey, a sophomore, is projected to start in Camarillo’s defensive secondary.
