Community College Roundup : Cypress Ends Winless Streak in Volleyball

The Cypress College women’s volleyball team, which was 0-19 last season, won its first match of the season with a 15-9, 15-13, 15-5 victory over Rio Hondo Wednesday in a nonconference match at Rio Hondo.

Kari Calliham had nine kills and setter Karen Lane had 12 assists and seven kills for Cypress.

In men’s nonconference soccer:

Fullerton 1, Mt. San Antonio 1--Fullerton’s Fernie Samaya scored with less than five minutes remaining to tie the score. Danny Garces had scored 32 minutes into the first half for Mt. San Antonio. Fullerton is 2-0-1.

San Diego Mesa 4, Orange Coast 1--Andy Strouse scored in the second half for host Orange Coast (1-2). Mesa led, 3-0, at the half.
