Lady Toros Keep Soccer Title in Sight

The Cal State Dominguez Hills women’s soccer team took another step toward the Division II national finals with a 2-0 intersectional victory Saturday afternoon over Northern Colorado at the University of Denver.

Kristi White and Amy Rubin tallied goals and Heather Rolland and Lenore Johnson added assists for the second-ranked Lady Toros (8-0). Goalie Chris Pezzulo recorded her seventh shutout.

Dominguez Hills plays the University of Denver later today. Another win would set the stage for a crucial contest Saturday at noon in Carson against defending national champion Cal State Hayward.

Cal State Los Angeles 3, Dominguez Hills 2: Mike Gregorian countered a pair of goals by Joe Flanagan with three of his own Saturday evening to push the hosts to a non-conference men’s victory.

L.A. (4-1-2) held a 3-0 lead in the second half, but Flanagan rifled in a pass from Matt Swindle at the 75 minute mark and converted a penalty kick nine minutes later.

The Golden Eagles compete on the Division I level in soccer. Dominguez Hills is a Division II school. The Toros (5-3-0) host United States International University on Monday at 3 p.m.
