Servite Grounds Out Victory

Share

Alemany High School’s meeting with Servite in a nonleague game on Friday figured to be an aerial showdown between two top quarterbacks, Alemany’s Joey Rosselli and Servite’s Rob Walker.

Instead, Servite’s dominant rushing game took center stage in a 24-6 victory.

Senior running back Kent Weiss shouldered the offensive bulk for Servite (2-4), gaining 145 yards in 16 carries and scoring two touchdowns. He scored on a second-quarter run from one yard out to give Servite a 7-0 lead and a 59-yard run in the fourth quarter to give the Friars their final margin of victory.

Alemany (3-3) had 183 yards in total offense--98 of them passing. The Indians’ only score came on an eight-yard pass from Rosselli to Billy Markowitz with 23 seconds left in the half; the conversion kick was short.

Walker completed five of nine passes for 103 yards, including a 74-yard touchdown pass to Mike Kroll.
