Beauer Adds to Streak of Touchdown Catches

Share

Clint Beauer of Canyon High, the state leader in touchdown receptions with 11, has caught a touchdown pass in eight consecutive games dating to last season’s Southern Section Division II championship game against Antelope Valley.

Beauer leads Valley-area players with 47 receptions and is the state’s second-leading receiver behind Eric Hansen of North Torrance, who has 58 catches. Hansen has 803 yards receiving to Beauer’s 771.

Passing: What’s all the fuss about Thousand Oaks’ passing game? The Lancers’ passing yardage has accounted for 20.7% of their offense. In 1987, the year they won the Coastal Conference championship, the passing game produced 20.2% of the offense.

Birmingham quarterback Danny Larson has rushed for 285 yards and thrown for 746 yards, giving him 1,031 all-purpose yards through five games. Braves’ receiver Jake Brescher has caught 19 passes for 380 yards, accounting for more than half of Larson’s passing yardage.

High five: Granada Hills’ offensive average, listed in Sunday’s edition, was based on five, rather than six, games. The Highlanders are actually averaging 329.8 yards a game, not 395.8.

It was fun while it lasted.

“It looked pretty good to me,” Highlander co-Coach Tom Harp said.

Rushing: Through five games, Monroe has rushed for 163 yards. Last year, tailback Curtis Scott averaged 176.6 yards a game . . . . Since transferring from San Fernando two weeks ago, tailback Maurice McFarland has rushed for 108 yards in 28 carries for North Hollywood. . . . Poly’s Jonathan Campbell has rushed for 747 yards, accounting for more than half of Poly’s 1,353 total offensive output.

Extra points: For the first time this season, tailback Johnny Carter of San Fernando outgained his cousin, Ontiwaun Carter of Kennedy. Johnny, a junior, rushed for 107 yards in 15 carries and scored a touchdown in San Fernando’s 26-6 defeat of El Camino Real. Ontiwaun, also a junior, was held to 81 yards in 22 carries in a 35-21 loss to Cleveland. Ontiwaun still leads Valley-area City backs with 877 yards. The Northwest Valley Conference’s other Carter--Irving of Taft, a senior who is unrelated--gained 75 yards in 17 carries.
