Saturday’s 7 p.m. game between El Camino and Mt. San Antonio College will feature two of the most productive offenses in the Mission Conference. Host El Camino, rated No. 1 in the state, is second in the league with an average of 426 yards a game.

Sophomore quarterback Frank Dolce leads the conference in passing with 112 completions for 1,598 yards and 16 touchdowns.

Mt. SAC (4-2, 3-2) is in third place with a 411-yard average. The No. 20 Mounties have two equally talented quarterbacks in Bill Gallis and John Spear. Gallis has completed 41 of 69 passes for 519 yards and four touchdowns in five games. Spear has made 48 of 95 for 704 yards and three touchdowns in six games.

The Mounties also have the league’s best running back in Leonard Russell who has rushed for 827 yards and six touchdowns on 142 carries. El Camino’s (6-0, 5-0) defense should present difficulties.

The Warriors allow only 228 yards of total offense a game as the league’s top defensive club. In last week’s 33-24 victory over Pasadena, defensive end Jeff Cummins had 14 tackles and deflected three passes.

A victory over undefeated Ventura in Saturday’s 7:30 p.m. contest will move eighth-ranked L.A. Southwest (5-0-1, 4-0-1) into first place in the Western State Conference. The Cougars, ranked 17th nationally by the JC Grid-Wire, are having their best season ever. Quarterback Craig Manigo has made 73 of 123 passes for 12 touchdowns and 1,054 yards.

The freshman has led Southwest to impressive league victories, including last week over Glendale. The Cougars’ defense is also a strong point. It allows 238 total yards a game.

Ventura (6-0, 5-0), ranked sixth in the state, is strong defensively. The Pirates will use a solid ground game to move the ball.

Harbor (2-4, 1-4) goes to Glendale on Saturday for a 1 p.m. WSC game that will probably turn out to be another Seahawk bashing. Harbor suffered its third shutout of the season last week against Moorpark.

Glendale (3-2-1, 3-1-1) lost its first league game to Southwest last week. The Vaqueros are led by quarterback Ronnie Lopez and all-conference running back Sean Hampton.
