Alani Silva, a former softball standout at Rancho Santiago College, has returned to take over the softball program, the college announced Wednesday.
Silva, who will work as a walk-on, replaces Butch Edge who resigned last week. Edge was a walk-on coach the past two seasons, compiling a 37-37 record.
Silva attended Kauai High School in Hawaii before coming to Rancho Santiago in 1984 and ’85. She was a standout pitcher and outfielder on the 1985 team that won the state championship. She hit .352 with four home runs and 38 RBIs and had 25 victories in 1985.
After leaving Rancho Santiago, she played two seasons at Cal State Fullerton as a starting outfielder. Silva hit .253 when the Titans won the national championship in 1986.
