Woodbridge Keeps Costa Mesa Winless

Woodbridge High School scored the game’s first four touchdowns and coasted to a 29-14 Pacific Coast League victory over winless Costa Mesa Friday night at Irvine Stadium.

Steve Madden scored scored twice, the first from two yards out with 4:32 left in the first quarter for Woodbridge (4-6, 2-3).

Scott Seymour then ran 38 yards with an interception with 2:12 remaining in the second quarter. Seymour also ran for the two-point conversion to increase the lead to 15-0.

Woodbridge made it 22-0 lead when quarterback Gary Fishel connected with Gary Gibson on a 28-yard touchdown pass with :22 left in the first half.

Madden’s seven-yard touchdown run with 8:47 remaining in the third quarter gave Woodbridge a 29-0 lead.

Costa Mesa (0-10, 0-5) scored on a two-yard touchdown run by Mike Webster and a successful two-point conversion by quarterback Mike Cutler with 6:33 left in the game, and Webster scored again from 10 yards out with 1:06 remaining.
