Hart’s Sara Wilson Signs to Attend Oregon on Basketball Scholarship

Sara Wilson, The Times’ girls’ basketball Player of the Year in the Valley last season, has signed a letter of intent to attend Oregon next fall.
Wilson, a 6-foot-3 forward, averaged team-high totals of 17.3 points and 11.8 rebounds last season and led the Indians to the Southern Section 5-A Division championship. She chose Oregon after making recruiting visits to Washington, Washington State and UCLA, where former Hart Coach Pam Walker was hired this season as an assistant.
“When I went up there on my trip, I guess you could say everything just clicked,” Wilson said. “I liked the coaches, I fit in with the team real well and I like the atmosphere of the campus. I wanted to get out of L. A. I couldn’t be happier right now.”
Oregon finished third in the Pacific 10 Conference last season and won the championship of the Women’s National Invitational Tournament in Amarillo, Tex.
“We’re very pleased to have her,” Oregon Coach Elwin Heiny said. “The kids up here already know her and like her. We feel she can fit in well with our style of play. She does a lot more than just stand around and be big.”
