ON THE SIDELINES : Freak Injury Sidelines Utah QB
Utah quarterback Scott Mitchell is questionable for Saturday’s showdown with archrival Brigham Young after suffering a “freak” injury on the final play of the Utes’ practice Tuesday.
Utah Coach Jim Fassel said the 6-foot-6, 235-pound Mitchell “hurt his right knee when a defensive lineman fell in front of Scott and sort of rolled into him. It was just a freak accident on our last passing drill of the day.”
Ute team orthopedic surgeon Alan Newman examined Mitchell moments after the incident. Newman said Mitchell had stretched his medial collateral ligament. The quarterback was undergoing further examination today, said team spokesman Bruce Woodbury.
