Community College Basketball Tournaments Start

The community college men’s and women’s basketball seasons move into full swing this week when Orange County teams play host to three men’s and one women’s tournament.

The Fullerton men’s tournament started Wednesday and continues today with Saddleback taking on Cerritos, the defending state champion, in the featured game at 8 p.m.

Cypress’ Thoroughbred tournament starts today with four games. The host Chargers play New Mexico Military at 8 p.m. Meramec plays Ventura at 2 p.m., Central Arizona plays Glendale at 4 p.m. and Kings River plays Edwards Air Force Base at 6 p.m.

The Fullerton and Cypress tournaments continue Friday, and the championship games are scheduled for 8 p.m. Saturday.

Rancho Santiago plays host to its Tip-Off tournament starting Friday, when Southwestern plays Chaffey at 6 p.m. and the host Dons take on College of the Desert at 8 p.m. The winners will play at 8 p.m. Saturday, and the losers at 6.

Three local women’s teams will participate in the Golden West tournament, which also starts today.

Rancho Santiago plays Mt. San Antonio at 2 p.m., Fullerton meets Victor Valley at 4 p.m., Grossmont plays El Camino at 6 p.m. and Golden West takes on College of the Canyons at 8 p.m. The second round will be Friday, and the championship game will begin at 7:30 p.m. Saturday.
