FALL ROUNDUP : CSUN Women Reach Bronco Classic Final

The Cal State Northridge women’s basketball team advanced to the championship game of the Bronco Classic at Cal Poly Pomona with a 77-56 victory over Cal State Chico on Friday.

Redshirt freshman center Sandi Olson scored 23 points and had eight rebounds as Northridge won its opener.

Northridge will play Cal Poly Pomona for the championship at 5:30 p.m. today.

In other women’s basketball action:

College of the Canyons 108, Rancho Santiago 52--Center Tressie Millender scored 16 points and grabbed 10 rebounds to lead the Cougars to the win in Golden West tournament consolation semifinal game.

Valley 84, Citrus 43--Valley Coach Doug Michelson cleared the bench about midway through second half, and all but one of his 15 players scored in a nonconference game.

Pierce 81, Long Beach 69--Forward Carol Schoenmann and center Michelle Ahnstedt led Pierce (2-2) with 19 points each. Melanie Sapon and Andja Vucurevic each added 15.

Men’s Basketball

Cal State Chico 95, Cal Lutheran 80--Jeff deLaveaga scored 36 points and made 13 of 21 shots to tie a Bronco Classic record for field goals in a game, but Cal State Chico (1-0) spoiled Coach Mike Dunlap’s Cal Lutheran debut with a victory at Cal Poly Pomona.

Valley 103, Trade Tech 75--Valley won its home opener as Shawn DeLaittre and Cliff Barnes each scored 20 points in a nonconference game against Trade Tech (0-3).

Ventura 75, Glendale 73--Lester Neal scored four of his game-high 25 points in the last two minutes as the fourth-ranked Pirates held on in a second round game of the Cypress tournament. Glendale was lead by Justin Lord with 17 points.

Women’s Soccer

Moorpark 3, Bakersfield 0--Moorpark completed its inaugural season in women’s soccer with a second-place finish in the South Coast Conference.

Wrestling

Moorpark 39, Mt. San Antonio 6--The Raiders won the first five weight classes en route to their sixth consecutive dual-meet win.
