Two S.D. County Blazes Battled
One brush fire burned some 50 acres and another at least 150, but no firefighters were hurt fighting the two blazes Saturday, California Department of Forestry officials said.
Crews contained the first fire, which began about 1:10 p.m., to some 50 acres in Rice Canyon, a mile east of Interstate 15 and about six miles south of the Riverside County line, officials said.
Some 200 firefighters contained the blaze without damage to any structures, including a hut in the area full of dynamite, officials said.
Some 275 firefighters, meanwhile, hoped today to contain the second fire, which has burned 150 acres southwest of Lake Wohlford, officials said.
The fire, which began about 3 p.m., was only 35% contained by late Saturday night and reportedly was near buildings in the rural area east of Escondido, officials said.
No people were threatened, however, they said.
