A 22-year-old man was fatally injured Sunday morning when his throat was slashed during a fight that started inside the Red Turtle Bar and spilled out into a parking lot, police reported.

Despite efforts to save him, Pedro Ramon Miranda of Santa Ana died of his injuries at Fountain Valley Regional Hospital and Medical Center, Santa Ana Police Sgt. Jim McDaniel said.

Police said the fight started about 1:30 a.m. inside the Red Turtle Bar at 1019 S. Fairview St. During the melee, someone cut Miranda across the throat with a knife and fled, McDaniel said. When paramedics arrived, Miranda was near death from loss of blood.

Witnesses told police that they saw a man carrying a knife running from the parking lot. They described him as between the ages of 20 and 24, 5 feet, 6 inches tall and having a slender build, and that he was wearing a white T-shirt.

“This happened in a real difficult neighborhood,” McDaniel said.
