Rast Twins Lead Santa Clara to NCAA Co-Title in Soccer
Cameron and Matt Rast, twin brothers from Royal High, helped Santa Clara earn an NCAA soccer co-championship, the school’s first national title.
They each scored a goal in Santa Clara’s 2-0 victory over UCLA on Dec. 3 in a quarterfinal match, and Cam was the Broncos’ leading scorer in the tournament with three goals.
Cam, a sophomore sweeper, was a first-team All-American and was the leading vote-getter. He was the most valuable player on defense in the West Coast Conference and also was the Broncos’ third-leading scorer with 11 goals and eight assists.
Matt, a sophomore stopper, was an honorable-mention all-conference selection. He scored three goals and added two assists.
The Rasts started every match for Santa Clara, which finished 20-0-3 and has not lost in its past 30 matches. The Broncos and Virginia battled to a 1-1 tie in the NCAA title game.
