This will be the last nonconference game for Long Beach before the 49ers open their Big West Conference schedule Dec. 26 at Nevada Las Vegas. Off to their best start in 11 years, the 49ers are coming off an 89-87 victory at Texas Wednesday night. Forward Kevin Cutler is the 49ers’ leading scorer with an average of 13.7 points. Guard Tyrone Mitchell is averaging 11.8 and forward Troy Joseph is averaging 10.8. The University of North Texas, formerly North Texas State, has lost by an average of 17 points. The leading scorer for the Mean Green is Chris Chavez, averaging 8.8 points.

CAL STATE FULLERTON (5-0) at COLORADO STATE (5-2), 6:30 PST.

TV--None. Radio--KMNY (1600).

Fullerton meets its first major challenge of the season in Colorado State. The Rams are 30-4 at home since Boyd Grant took over the program before the 1987-88 season. Grant’s team, which relies on zone defense and a controlled tempo, is limiting opponents to an average of 56 points. Colorado State is led by Mike Mitchell, averaging 18.1 points. Cedric Ceballos leads Fullerton, averaging 26.4 points and 11.4 rebounds.
