BOYS’ BASKETBALL ROUNDUP : Dana Hills Loses Tournament Final

Kyle Armstrong and Bart Brandenburg scored 17 points each to lead Torrey Pines High School to a 61-52 victory over Dana Hills Tuesday in the championship game of the San Dieguito tournament at San Dieguito High School in Encinitas.

Torrey Pines took a 17-9 at the end of the first quarter and led, 27-19, at the half. Torrey Pines outscored Dana Hills, 23-12, in the third quarter to take a commanding 50-31 lead.

In other San Dieguito tournament games:

Newport Harbor 54, El Modena 49--Hui Nguyen had 28 points to lead Newport Harbor (7-2) in the consolation championship. Paig Parish had 10 points and 10 assists and Ian Long had 10 rebounds and eight points for Newport Harbor. Jeff Leedom had 17 points for El Modena.

San Clemente 71, San Marcos 49--Eddie Morgan scored 18 points and had 13 rebounds for San Clemente (4-5). Jason Dunahee had 15 points, Jason Ortega 12, Melvin Johnson and Rick Brail had 10 each for San Clemente. San Clemente outscored San Marcos, 16-5, in the first quarter and led, 32-11, at the half.

In the first round of the Fullerton tournament:

Western 89, Los Amigos 41--Sam Sabbara scored 25 points and Robbie Shelton had 18 to lead Western in the first round. Western led, 29-14, after the first quarter and increased the lead to 53-18, at the half. Andre Roberson scored 14 for Los Amigos. Western plays Cerritos at 6:30 p.m. in one semifinal-round game.

Cerritos 85, Sonora 71--Scott Day had 34 points to lead Cerritos (6-1) in a first-round game. Sonora (2-4) was led by Scott Oxarart’s 20 points and Greg Farlow’s 19.

In the Great Florida tournament:

Ocean View 70, Pinellas Park 58--Marcel TenBerge had 16 points to lead Ocean View (7-2). Ryan Martin had 14 points, Greg Evans had 13 and Jim Gwaltney had 11 for Ocean View.

In nonleague games:

Servite 39, Alemany 36--Mike Coady scored all five of his points in the final quarter to help Servite (6-3) at home. Servite trailed, 26-25, starting the fourth quarter. Steve Marusich had 12 points and Adam Anderson had eight for Servite.

Costa Mesa 57, Magnolia 39--Bret Dieball had 16 points to lead Costa Mesa (2-6) at home. Xavier Hanna had 12 for Costa Mesa (2-6).

Anaheim 69, Katella 40--Danny Castro had 24 points to lead visiting Anaheim (2-6). Victor Zambrano had 16 and Say Iemsisanith 10 for Anaheim.

Buena Park 68, Orange 53--Richard Harvy scored 22 points and had 12 rebounds to lead visiting Buena Park (4-3). Donyell Collins scored 20 for Buena Park. Carlos Duran had 16 for Orange (4-3).

Leuzinger 70, Santa Ana Valley 51--John Griffin had 20 points to lead visiting Leuzinger. Santa Ana Valley (1-4) was led by George Alavarado, who had 10 points and 13 rebounds. Edgar Vavueta had 11 points and Scott Strong had 10 points for Santa Ana Valley.

Westminster 75, Santa Ana 63--Dave Rall had 19 points to lead Westminster. Eden Yawata had 13 points, Mitch Okura had 13 and Mark Murphy had 12. Chauncey Woolridge had 26 points and Oscar Wilson had 15 for Santa Ana (4-4).

Estancia 55, Laguna Hills 37--Augustin Heredia had 18 points and eight assists to lead host Estancia (5-3).

Corona del Mar 73, Sunny Hills 54--Jeff Jackson had 24 points to lead host Corona del Mar (4-4). Jon Upham had 10 rebounds and seven points off the bench for the winners.
