Outfielder Kruk Signs With Phillies
Outfielder John Kruk has signed a 1990 contract for $615,000 plus bonuses with the Philadelphia Phillies, General Manager Lee Thomas announced today.
The Phillies also announced that pitcher Marvin Freeman and outfielder Ron Jones have been assigned to the Scranton-Wilkes-Barre Red Barons of the International League, and former Phillies outfielder Jerry Martin has been hired as coach at Martinsville, Va., of the Appalachian League.
Kruk, 29, came to the Phillies in a three-player trade last June from San Diego. He batted .300 with eight homers and 44 RBIs for the season. After starting with a .184 average at San Diego, Kruk hit .331 in 81 games with the Phillies.
