After Long Beach lost to Nevada Las Vegas, 78-58, Tuesday, 49er Coach Joe Harrington said, “It’s only one loss, and we can’t let that affect what we have done so far this season.” The 49ers shot only 27% from the field at Las Vegas. Long Beach, 3-0 at home, is led by forward Kevin Cutler, who is averaging 13.3 points a game. Hofstra University, of Hempstead, N.Y., is coached by Butch van Breda Kolff, 67, who coached the Lakers in the late 1960s. Van Breda Kolff is in the second season of his second tenure with Hofstra. He led the Flying Dutchmen to five 20-victory seasons in the ‘50s.

CENTRAL CONNECTICUT STATE (1-6) at USC (3-3), 3 p.m.

Guard Robert Pack, who scored 23 points in a 76-73 victory over St. Francis last weekend, has averaged 18 points and 5.7 assists in his last three games while shooting 67% from the field. Forward Ronnie Coleman needs 25 points to move into 20th place on USC’s career scoring list. Coleman has scored 880 points in 66 games. Central Connecticut’s only win was an 83-55 victory over Post College, a NAIA school from Waterbury, Conn.
