HIGH SCHOOL BASKETBALL ROUNDUP : EAGLE ROCK TOURNAMENT

University 50, Taft 45--Forward Jason Deyoe, a 6-8 senior, scored a career-high 26 points and pulled down nine rebounds, but no other Toreador scored in double figures in the third-place game.

Center Greg Vernon led University with 19 points, and guard Angelo Shivers added 13.

Taft played without James Yoakum and Cornell Hill, its second- and third-leading scorers. Hill missed the game because of a sprained ankle and Yoakum was sidelined because of a strained thigh muscle.

Sylmar 74, University JV 57--Guard David Elliot scored 14 points and handed out 11 assists in the consolation final.

Teammate Donovan Walker added 12 points and Tommie White pulled down 11 rebounds for the Spartans.

ESTANCIA TOURNAMENT

Banning 84, Hoover 60--John Hillman led Hoover (3-7) with 18 points, but Hoover turned the ball over 18 times in the consolation semifinals.

Hoover, which trailed by 17 at halftime, pulled to within 11 points entering the fourth quarter but could get no closer.

LAS VEGAS VALLEY HIGH TOURNAMENT

Royal 95, Valley 69--Royal tied the school record for most points in a game and advanced to the consolation championship today against Hawthorne.

Russell Myers scored 23 of his game-high 36 points in the first half as Royal (10-3) took a 22-point lead.

LA SALLE TOURNAMENT

Cantwell 55, Faith Baptist 44--Faith Baptist scored only five points in the third quarter in the consolation final.

Center Peter Rassmussen scored 14 points and grabbed 10 rebounds for Faith Baptist (5-6) but picked up his fourth foul early in the third quarter. Teammate Fernando Garcia added 11 points.

NONLEAGUE

Harvard 59, Flintridge Prep 43--Guard Matt Clark scored a game-high 21 points for Harvard (10-2) at Flintridge Prep.

Clark had two steals early in the fourth quarter, which he converted into easy baskets.

Rick Osterloh and Lloyd Rodgers each scored nine points for Harvard.

GIRLS

Van Nuys 56, Culver City 45--Tina Means and Stacie Toon each scored 16 points as Van Nuys (7-3) advanced to today’s seventh-place game of the Bell-Jeff tournament.

Holy Martyrs 56, Village Christian 46--Garine Abramians scored a game-high 24 points and had six steals to lead Holy Martyrs to a nonleague win at Village Christian.

Sandra Ohanessian added 19 points, seven assists and six steals for Holy Martyrs (6-0).

Camarillo 60, Hueneme 54--Senior Nichole Victoria scored nine consecutive points in the fourth quarter to bring Camarillo back from a five-point deficit and put the Lady Scorpions ahead by four points in a consolation game of the Thousand Oaks tournament.

Victoria’s basket at 4:32 in the fourth quarter tied the score, 48-48. The forward then stole an errant Hueneme pass at half-court and converted a three-point play to put Camarillo (7-5) ahead for good.

Along with Victoria’s 12 points in the fourth quarter, senior center Jimm Mahoney scored seven points and pulled down six rebounds for the Lady Scorpions. Victoria added a game-high six steals to go with her game-high 30 points.

El Camino Real 54, Nordhoff 46--Angela Rich scored 15 of her 16 points in the second half to lead the Conquistadores in a consolation game of the Thousand Oaks tournament.

Foothill 51, Rio Mesa 36--Marion Jones scored 24 points but it wasn’t enough in a consolation game of the Thousand Oaks tournament.

San Marcos 52, Louisville 38--Mary Hudson led the Royals with 12 points in a consolation game of the Thousand Oaks tournament.
