Titans Hand Irvine 11th Loss in Row
Lose 11 in a row in college football and you have a winless season--but at least it’s over. Bill Mulligan and his UC Irvine basketball team have 10 more games.
By halftime against Cal State Fullerton on Thursday, Irvine had scored only 14 points, fewer than any of Mulligan’s 10 Irvine teams ever had.
Long before the final buzzer of Fullerton’s 82-55 victory before 3,126 in Titan Gym, Irvine was assured of its 11th consecutive loss. It tied the school record, set in 1980 under Coach Tim Tift, now an Irvine radio announcer.
Irvine is 2-16 overall, 0-9 in the Big West Conference. The school record for losses in a season is 20, also set in 1980.
The Anteaters set a school record for lowest halftime score--trailing, 38-14 at intermission--and had a season low for field-goal percentage (29%).
Reserve Jeff Von Lutzow had a career-high 24 points for Irvine. Cedric Ceballos had 22 points for Fullerton (10-7, 4-4).
