THE SIDELINES : Houston Leads Hawaii to Win
Terry Houston scored 19 points, including 12 in the second half, to lead Hawaii to a 75-63 Western Athletic Conference victory over San Diego State here Thursday night.
The win lifted Hawaii to 16-4 overall and 5-2 in the WAC. San Diego State fell to 11-9 and 3-4.
Houston’s second-half effort spearheaded an inside attack for the Rainbows. Hawaii opened its biggest lead at 73-59 with 1:09 left in the game on a layup by Chris Gaines.
The Rainbows held a 39-32 halftime lead after shooting 16 for 28 from the field. Hawaii finished shooting 31 for 53, while holding San Diego State to just 21 for 45.
Both teams struggled at the free-throw line, with Hawaii converting just 11 of 17 and the Aztecs 19 of 32.
