PREP SOCCER ROUNDUP : Paniagua Scores Twice, Santiago Beats Pacifica

Eric Paniagua scored two goals to lead Santiago High School to a 3-1 victory over Pacifica Friday in a Garden Grove League boys’ soccer match at Santiago.

Paniagua scored midway through the first half to give Santiago (13-3-2 overall, 8-0-1 in league play) a 1-0 lead. Sean Connolly tied the score two minutes later for Pacifica.

Paniagua broke the tie with 10 minutes left, and Jesus Murillo made it 3-1 three minutes later. Pacifica is 4-3-1 in league play.

In other Garden Grove League matches:

La Quinta 1, Rancho Alamitos 0--Dave Matlock scored with 10 minutes remaining on an assist from Marc Caress for host La Quinta (10-6-4, 6-0-3). Praseuth Sota had five saves for La Quinta, and Rick Primeaux had eight saves for Rancho Alamitos.

Kennedy 3, Bolsa Grande 1--James Trimmer, Jeremy Weber and Joe Rodriguez each scored for host Kennedy (8-6-1, 5-3-1).

In the Century League:

Villa Park 0, Foothill 0--Foothill goalkeeper Lance Anderson had six saves for the Knights (15-2-4, 2-0-4).

Santa Ana 2, El Modena 1--Gus Placensia’s goal with four minutes remaining led visiting Santa Ana (12-2-6, 4-0-2). Santa Ana’s Juan Santa Cruz scored in the first half, and Mark Gonzales tied the score 20 minutes into the second half for El Modena (6-5-2, 1-4-1).

In the Empire League:

Esperanza 6, Loara 1--Jason Wheeler had two goals and Troy Duncan, Mario Sabraso, Jason De Lucca and Mike Voss each added one to lead visiting Esperanza (13-3-4, 5-1-1). Bill Milligan scored for Loara (1-16, 0-5).

In the Pacific Coast League:

Orange 4, Laguna Beach 2--Justin Zayas scored twice and David Knorr and Tim Huhn had one goal each for host Orange (13-0-3, 10-0-1).

Trabuco Hills 3, Costa Mesa 2--Greg Daman, Steve Kalajian and Christian Haymes scored for Trabuco Hills (8-7-2, 5-4-2) at Costa Mesa (1-12-1, 0-11).

In the Sea View League:

Corona del Mar 0, Newport Harbor 0--Josh Klein had two saves for Newport Harbor (16-3-3, 4-0-2), and Chris Connelly had 10 saves for Corona del Mar (2-3-1).

Saddleback 3, Estancia 0--Elio Sisneros, Hernan DeSantos and Jose Escudero scored for host Saddleback (10-4-2, 3-2-1).

University 7, Tustin 1--David Jacobsen scored three goals and Diego Serrano, Seth Redford, Engels Tang, and Robert Chapman one each for host University (8-6-2, 2-3-1).

In the South Coast League:

Mission Viejo 1, Capistrano Valley 0--Ryan Darke scored midway through the second half to lead host Mission Viejo (11-5-4, 4-1-2). Capistrano Valley is 2-4-1 in league play.

El Toro 1, Dana Hills 0--Doug Barry scored for visiting El Toro (8-3-1, 5-1-1).
