Dorsett Ends NFL Career as No. 2 Runner

Tony Dorsett has made it official: He is retiring after 13 seasons as an NFL running back.

Dorsett, a virtual lock for the NFL’s Hall of Fame after finishing his career as the league’s No. 2 all-time rusher with 12,739 yards, sat out this past season after undergoing reconstructive knee surgery as a result of a training camp injury. It was his second season in Denver after 11 years with the Dallas Cowboys.

“I’m through,” Dorsett told the Rocky Mountain News in a telephone interview from his Dallas home on Tuesday. “It’s official. I don’t have any immediate plans except to relax. I want to try to get my knee back to normal.”

Dorsett indicated earlier this month that his career most likely was over, and said he hoped to get a job in broadcasting.
