SOCCER ROUNDUP : Louisville Upsets Chaminade

Louisville High, unranked in the Southern Section 2-A Division girls’ soccer poll, stunned fourth-ranked Chaminade, 3-1, in a San Fernando Valley League match Thursday at Crespi.

The Royals (11-5-2, 5-1-1 in league play) jumped to a 2-0 halftime advantage on goals by Gabriella Nichols and Cindy Daws.

Sonia Freeman added a goal in the second half to round out the Royals’ scoring and Ashley Wire made four saves in goal for Louisville, which moves into second place in the league race behind Alemany, the defending champion.

Chaminade fell to 15-3-2, 4-2-1.

In other girls’ matches:

Alemany 2, Notre Dame 0--Halfback Robyn Renaud and forward Melody Arvonio scored in the first and second halves for the Indians in a San Fernando Valley League match at Alemany (12-5-2, 6-0).

Birmingham 3, Granada Hills 1--Erin Saltzman scored two goals and Becky Endman added another for the Braves in a Valley League match.

BOYS

Grant 3, North Hollywood 2--Jaime Palacious scored two goals and Edgard Virgill added one to lead host Grant (8-2-2, 5-2-2) in a Valley Pac-8 Conference match.

Chatsworth 4, Taft 2--Mike Nash, Jeremy Foster, Gavin Small and Donnie Oades scored to give Chatsworth (7-3-3, 6-2-1) its fourth consecutive win in a West Valley League match at Chatsworth.

Kennedy 4, Cleveland 2--Kennedy’s Alex Sandoval scored twice and recorded two assists in the Northwest Valley League game at Cleveland. Kennedy improved to 10-2-1, 7-2-0.

Birmingham 1, Monroe 0--Carlos Figueroa scored on a head shot early in the second half to break a scoreless tie in a Valley Pac-8 Conference match to pace Birmingham (7-2-4, 4-0-4) at home.

San Fernando 1, Granada Hills 0--Enrique Moreno scored at the 20-minute mark to give San Fernando a West Valley League win.
