In another Grossmont 3-A League game:
Helix 59, El Capitan 43--Gary Walton scored 20 points and Derrick Henry added 11 for Helix (10-6, 3-2). John Cook led El Capitan (9-14, 0-6) with 11.
Grossmont 2-A League
Santana 51, El Cajon Valley 50--El Cajon Valley’s Robin Hogkinson missed a free throw on the back end of a three-point play, with two seconds left as Santana (5-17, 3-2) survived. Ross Piper had 18 points but fouled Hogkinson, who made the five-foot shot with time running out. El Cajon Valley fell to 3-17, 2-4.
Valhalla 108, West Hills 52--Tony Lee scored 23 points and made seven assists, Tory Temple had 22 points and 12 rebounds, and Mark Dillon added a season-high 16 points for Valhalla (17-8, 6-0). West Hills dropped to 1-18 and 0-6.
City Central League
Lincoln 73, Crawford 66--Crawford’s Marc Carter scored 34 points and had 22 rebounds--but it was not enough to offset ninth-ranked Lincoln (16-8, 6-0). Victory Dean (19 points) and Darryl McMillan (16) led four Hornets in double figures. Crawford fell to 15-7, 2-3.
San Diego 91, Hoover 58--Clark James had 31 points and 24 rebounds for fifth-ranked San Diego (14-3, 5-1). John Akridge had 19 to lead Hoover (5-15, 1-5).
City Harbor League
Christian 91, Marian Catholic 45--Tony Clark outscored Marian himself with 50 points to lead Christian (10-10, 4-2).
St. Augustine 90, Coronado 65--Bryan Cantwell scored 27 points and grabbed eight rebounds, Matt Kenney added 17 points and eight rebounds and Paul Mitchell had 11 points and eight rebounds for St. Augustine (4-19, 3-3). Coronado dropped to 14-8, 4-1).
City Eastern League
Patrick Henry 64, Morse 63--Jason Lonsdale made one of two free throws with five seconds left giving No. 4 Patrick Henry (19-3, 6-0) the one-point victory at home against rival Morse (13-11, 3-3). With 20 seconds left, the Tigers’ David Dunn tied the game, 63-63, with his 32nd point. Lonsdale finished with 23 points. Teammate William Reese added 17.
City Western League
University City 65, Mission Bay 45--Jerome Price sparked University City’s 16-8 rally in the second quarter and led the No. 6 Centurions (19-2, 6-0) with 18 points. Teammate Anthony Hill added 17. Gebel Anderson scored 17 for the Buccaneers (3-14, 1-4).
USDHS 69, La Jolla 64--Eric Barajas made three consecutive three-pointers in the fourth quarter to assist the Dons (12-6, 4-2) after they trailed by as many as seven in the third quarter. Barajas finished with 15 points. Peter Ellis had 25 points and nine rebounds. La Jolla fell to 4-15, 1-5.
Coastal League
Bishop’s 62, Francis Parker 48--Bill Assaf had 19 points and seven assists for Bishop’s (18-4, 9-0). Brink Sanders scored 17 for Parker.
Citrus League
Lutheran 71, Borrego Springs 54--Jeff Hooper led all scorers with 24 points and Brad Upshaw added 17 to lead Lutheran (11-6, 6-1) at Borrego (8-8, 4-2).
Nonleague
Mira Mesa 88, Kearny 84 (3 OT)--Kearny’s John Lam forced overtime when he hit two free throws with 15 seconds remaining and Mira Mesa leading, 74-72. In the third overtime, Mira Mesa led by six when two Kearny (13-9) field goals made it 86-84. Mira Mesa’s Mark Ziegler hit both ends of a one-and-one to end the game. J.J. Rowlett (24 points, 15 rebounds) and Ziegler (18 points, 12 rebounds) led the Maurauders (14-8). Teammate Shed Smith finished with four three-pointers. Darnay Scott led Kearny with 25 points.
