SOUTH COAST LEAGUE ROUNDUP : McCorkle Sparks Capistrano Valley Past Dana Hills

Scott McCorkle scored 32 points to lead Capistrano Valley High School to a 69-55 victory over Dana Hills Wednesday night in a South Coast League basketball game at Saddleback College.

The Cougars (17-7 overall, 8-1 in the league) led, 17-12, at the end of the first quarter and 37-23 at halftime. Capistrano Valley clinched the league championship last Friday.

Chris Kostoff scored 20 points for Capistrano Valley, but the Cougars got little production from the rest of their team, which scored a total of 17 points.

Keith Barnett scored 13 points for Dana Hills (15-9, 3-6).

In other league games:

El Toro 70, San Clemente 61--Rob Johnson scored 23 points to pace El Toro (18-5, 6-3) at San Clemente. Forward Jason Dunnahee scored 22 for San Clemente (6-17, 0-9). Though winless in league play, San Clemente kept the game close and was down by only five points, 50-45, at the end of three periods. But Johnson hit a three-point basket to open the final period and El Toro pulled away from there.

Mission Viejo 69, Irvine 48--Mark Wright had 17 points and Eric Cramer had 12 for visiting Mission Viejo (17-6, 7-2), which led, 46-22, at the half. John Molle had 18 points and Brian Boothroyd had 14 for Irvine (11-14, 3-6).
