PREP ROUNDUP : Saddleback Takes Sea View League Soccer Title

Luis Guerrero scored two goals to lead Saddleback High School to its third consecutive Sea View League boys’ soccer title with a 7-0 victory over Tustin Thursday at Saddleback.

Hernan DeSantos, Jose Perez, Elio Cisneros, Draulio Mendez and Anthony Ramirez also scored for Saddleback (14-4-2, 7-2-1 in league play). Adrian Sevilla had three saves for his 10th shutout for Saddleback.

In other Sea View League matches:

Newport Harbor 1, University 0--Brannon Calluccio scored in the first half for host Newport Harbor (17-4-5, 5-1-4). The victory was a single-season team high for Newport Harbor. Josh Klein had seven saves for Newport Harbor.

Estancia 2, Corona del Mar 1--Jose Medrano scored in the 35th minute of the first half to give visiting Estancia (9-8-3, 6-2-2) the victory. Gary Burrows scored in the third minute to give Estancia a 1-0 lead. Scott Owen tied the score for Corona del Mar (10-13-2, 3-6-1) in the 20th minute.

In the Freeway League:

Fullerton 2, La Habra 0--Dave Uzzi and Romero Rodriguez scored in the first half for Fullerton (6-11-3, 5-4-1), which clinched third place.

In the Olympic League:

Santa Margarita 4, Capistrano Valley Christian 0--Jason Foreman, Travis Lucero, Lou Pavlovich and Steve Feeney scored for visiting Santa Margarita (11-11, 9-5).

In Empire League girls’ soccer:

Esperanza 3, Katella 0--Chrissy Coppage, Jennifer Gulden and Michelle Rullo scored to lead visiting Esperanza (22-2-3, 8-0-2). It was Esperanza’s 38th consecutive league victory.

In the Garden Grove League:

La Quinta 1, Pacifica 1--Stefani Stucker scored her 24th goal of the season for La Quinta (14-3-1, 9-0-1). Mandy Mitchell scored for Pacifica (6-2-2 in league).

Kennedy 4, Garden Grove 0--Vicki Crisostomo scored twice for visiting Kennedy (14-5-1, 7-2-1), which finished second in league.

In the Olympic League:

Orange Lutheran 6, Capistrano Valley Christian 0--Freshman Amber Parkinson scored four goals to lead host Orange Lutheran (14-2-4, 9-1-4). Parkinson has scored 34 goals in 20 matches for Orange Lutheran. Turi Jacobs and Brandi Yates also scored for Orange Lutheran, which clinched third place and a playoff spot.

In the Pacific Coast League:

Laguna Hills 2, Orange 1--Julie DeCastro and Claudie Smedes scored second-half goals to lead visiting Laguna Hills (11-10-3, 4-3-1). Debbie Ford scored eight minutes into the game for host Orange (7-8-3, 2-5-1).

Woodbridge 3, Laguna Beach 0--Talia Emery had two goals and Anne Risquez had one for visiting Woodbridge (12-5-2, 5-2-1).

In the Sea View League:

University 3, Newport Harbor 0--Kristen Pope, Jane Sorenson and Carrie Caposino scored for University (10-5-5, 6-1-3). Kell Kynoch had nine saves for University and Lisa Bernhard had nine for Newport Harbor (5-6-3, 3-4-3). University clinched second place.

In the South Coast League:

Dana Hills 4, Irvine 0--Jennifer Konig had two goals and Molly Sullivan and Briana O’Dowd scored one each for Dana Hills (18-3-2, 7-2-1). Dana Hills tied for the league championship with El Toro.

Capistrano Valley 1, El Toro 1--Kim Maniscalco scored with about 10 minutes left in the match for host El Toro (6-1-3 in league play).

In Academy League boys’ basketball:

Cal Lutheran 93, Liberty Christian 53--It took more than a week, but Cal Lutheran won a game finished Thursday at the First Baptist Church in Long Beach. The first half of the game was played Jan. 30 at St. Margaret’s High School in San Jaun Capistrano, but rain caused the gym’s roof to leak and the game was stopped with Cal Lutheran leading, 44-21, at the half. Rob Hasty scored 21, Jeff Dimichina 19 and Brad Pluckhan 18 for Cal Lutheran (10-7, 6-3 in league play).

In the Olympic League:

Valley Christian 59, Whittier Christian 57--Whittier Christian held a 52-44 lead with four minutes remaining but its slowdown tactics backfired. Valley Christian forward Brent Vankampen led the comeback with a pair of three-point shots, two field goals and a free throw, scoring 11 points in the last quarter.

In the Tournament of Champions field hockey semifinals:

Santiago 3, Baldwin Park 1--Stephanie Higham had two goals, one on a penalty stroke, to lead host Santiago (22-2-1) to the finals. Espy Monroy also scored for Santiago. Uti Serrano scored for Baldwin Park (16-3-3). Nellie Silveira had one save for Santiago and Debbie Chavez had one for Baldwin Park.

Westminster 1, Chino 0--Michelle Keller scored with 10 seconds left for Westminster (18-2-2) at home.
