4-A BOYS : After 23 Years, Buena Park Advances

BUENA PARK — Donyelle Collins scored 23 points, including 16 in the first half, to lead Buena Park High School to a 61-56 victory over Garden Grove in a 4-A Southern Section boys’ basketball playoff game Tuesday. It was the first playoff victory for Buena Park since 1967.
Ray Lanier scored 15 points for Buena Park, including a layup with one second left in the first half to give Buena Park a 30-29 lead. The Coyotes (12-12) never trailed again.
Buena Park outscored Garden Grove, 17-10, to take a 47-39 lead. Garden Grove cut the lead to 58-55 with about a minute left.
Mark Perry scored 26 points for Garden Grove (11-13).
