SOUTHERN SECTION BASKETBALL PLAYOFFS : GIRLS’ ROUNDUP : Brea Has No Trouble in Playoff Opener

Share

Brea-Olinda High School showed little effect from a one-week layoff Saturday night, as the Ladycats dominated visiting El Dorado, 76-32, in the second round of the 3-A girls’ playoffs.

Top-seeded Brea (27-0) drew a first-round bye, but was razor-sharp in taking a 19-0 lead before El Dorado (8-14) finally scored on Jennifer Petty’s free throw with 2:30 left in the first quarter.

It was the 49th consecutive victory for the Ladycats, who are rated the top team in Orange County and the state. Point guard Aimee McDaniel had 20 points and nine assists. Jinelle Williams added 12 points and Jody Anton 10.

“McDaniel asserted herself as the premiere player in Orange County,” Brea Coach Mark Trakh said. “Some people say she doesn’t have the stats, but she’s 87-2 (Brea’s record) in three years, and that’s the stat that counts in my book.”
