Westlake 3, Gahr 0--The Warriors broke three school records and tied a fourth in an El Segundo tournament championship quarterfinal at Gahr.

Mike Eby (2-0), a left-handed senior, notched his school-record 14th career win for Westlake (3-0) in his record-tying 29th appearance. Catcher Mike Lieberthal hit a record 10th home run of his career and Tim Falsken stole four bases to raise his record total to 27.

Grant 6, North Hollywood 5--With two out in the bottom of the seventh, North Hollywood’s Duane Braxton was tagged out at home while trying to score the tying run on a wild pitch by reliever Steve Pelote in an East Valley League opener at Grant.

Erik Martinez was three for five with two doubles and two RBIs for North Hollywood. Jim Tumbeiro had three hits and Justin Howard and Pelote each added two for Grant.

Birmingham 5, Monroe 0--Josh Brown went the distance, using a wicked side-armed curve to strike out 10 and run his record to 3-0 in a Mid-Valley League opener at Birmingham.

Trailing, 5-0, Monroe loaded the bases in the sixth before Brown, a right-handed senior, struck out the side.

Simi Valley 10, Westminster 5--Third baseman Joe Gordon slammed two home runs, including a grand slam in the fourth to break a 4-4 tie, in a ninth-place quarterfinal game of the El Segundo tournament at Simi Valley. Gordon has four home runs in two games.
