HIGH SCHOOL BASEBALL ROUNDUP : Morse Rallies to Victory Over Clairemont

Clairemont (1-1) scored in the top of the eighth to break a 5-5 tie, but Morse rallied in the bottom half of the inning for a 7-6 victory in the Crawford tournament Thursday.

Morse’s Chris Nelson and Dwaine Bostic hit back-to-back two-out doubles to tie the game. After Dorian Guerrero was hit by a pitch, pinch-hitter Robert Rios drove a game-winning hit to left for Morse (2-0).

In other Crawford tournament games:

La Jolla 5, University City 4--John Zuanich hit a bases-loaded, two-out single in the bottom of the seventh inning, driving in two runs, to secure the victory for La Jolla. Zuanich, a sophomore right fielder, was two for four.

GMC tournament

Montgomery 6, San Diego 3--Jose Lorenzana had a bases-empty home run, and David Silvas (2-0) went six innings for the victory. Montgomery (3-1) scored three runs in the bottom of the sixth to break a 3-3 tie.

Lincoln 9, Southwest 6--Donald Anderson went four for four with two doubles and a stolen base for Lincoln (3-0), and teammate John Kuykendall hit a two-run home run in the first.

Hilltop-Moose tournament

Chula Vista 10, Helix 6--Chad Young hit a three-run homer with two in the bottom of the seventh to tie the game for Helix. But Chula Vista scored four runs in the top of the ninth for the victory (1-1). Rob Ippolito had a solo home run in the sixth for Helix (0-1-1).

Hilltop 9, Escondido 5--Hilltop scored nine runs in the first three innings, including six in the third, and Escondido committed six errors. Sergio Guzman was two for four with two doubles and three RBIs for Hilltop (1-1).

El Capitan 7, St. Augustine 6--Sid Melero went three for four with two runs scored for El Capitan (2-0), and pitcher Mike Farrel drove in the go-ahead run in the bottom of the sixth.

Granite Hills 4, San Marcos 2--Rob Shawcroft doubled with the bases loaded and drove in three runs in the first inning. Matt Shea came on as a relief pitcher in the fourth and did not allow a hit.

Nonleague

Imperial 14, Mountain Empire 5--Leon Jackson had a two-run home run and Poncho Valdez hit a bases-empty homer in the third inning as Imperial (1-1) won easily.
