COMMUNITY COLLEGE ROUNDUP : Cypress College Rallies to Edges Fullerton in Softball, 4-3

Although Laura Corson allowed only one hit and retired the last 17 batters she faced, Cypress College had to rally to defeat Fullerton, 4-3, in an Orange Empire Conference softball game Monday at Cypress.
Corson (8-1) allowed only a double to Jennifer Phillips in the second inning, but the hit drove in two runs and Phillips scored on an overthrow to give Fullerton a 3-1 lead.
Cypress scored two in the third, tying the score on Collene Conahan’s sacrifice fly. In the bottom of the fifth, Rose Ferrante drove in Digna Salas with a two-out single to give the Chargers (15-2 overall, 3-0 in the conference) the lead. Fullerton is 0-15 and 0-3.
In other games:
Orange Coast 9, Riverside 0--Cathy Scalan and Kristin Heizer each went two for three, scored two runs and had two RBIs at Riverside. The Pirates (14-3, 3-1) scored one run in the fifth inning, three in the sixth and five in the seventh and Heizer allowed three hits in six innings. Niqua Monson didn’t allow a hit in the seventh.
Saddleback 1, Golden West 0 (eight innings)--Lisa Kaufman’s third walk--on a 3-2 pitch to Sara Murillo in the bottom of the eighth inning--forced home Tisa Herrera, who scored the only run of the game at Saddleback. Lisa Kaufman (7-5) allowed only two hits but walked five.
Denise Kuhns (7-3-1) allowed three hits and no walks in her fifth shutout of the season for Saddleback (8-6-1, 2-0-1). Golden West is 14-8, 2-2.
