HIGH SCHOOL ROUNDUP : Durr’s Field Day Sparks El Camino Real, 86-41

Kenard Durr, who missed most of the basketball season at El Camino Real High because of a sprained ankle, showed no traces of the injury in a Northwest Valley Conference track meet Friday at San Fernando.
Durr won four field events to help El Camino Real to an 86-41 victory over San Fernando. The senior, who sustained the injury as a member of the Conquistadore football team, won the high jump (5 feet, 10 inches), long jump (19-10), triple jump (40-8) and shotput (45-0).
Teammate John Speier won the 100-meter dash (11.2 seconds) and the 220-yard dash (23.1), and ran the first leg on El Camino Real’s victorious 440- and mile-relay teams that won in (45.2) and (3:51.2).
El Camino Real (3-0) won 11 of 15 events. Sophomore Jaffers Bailey was a double winner, taking the 110 high hurdles (15.7) and 330 intermediates (43.7).
San Fernando was paced by City Section cross-country champion Obed Aguirre, who won all three distances races. He clocked 2:02.1 in the 880 and cruised in the mile (4:55.4) and two mile (10:45.6).
In other boys’ meets:
Kennedy 73, Chatsworth 54--Football star Ontiwaun Carter ran a sizzling 10.7-second 100 meters to lead the Golden Cougars to a Northwest Valley Conference win at Chatsworth. Carter also won the 220 (22.9) and anchored both winning relay teams.
Kyle Beck won three events for Chatsworth (1-2, 0-2)--the 120-yard high hurdles, 330 intermediate hurdles and the long jump.
Taft 97, Westchester 28--Cornell Hill won the high jump (6-4), long jump (22-5), 220 (23.5) and was a member of the Toreadors’ victorious 440 relay team (44.1) in a nonleague meet at Taft.
Irving Carter, a senior transfer from Antelope Valley, won the 100 meters (11.5), triple jump (43-7) and ran a leg on the sprint relay for Taft (3-0).
Reseda 79 1/2, Sylmar 34 1/2--Peter Fain won three events to lead Reseda (3-0) to a Valley Pac-8 Conference victory. Fain, a senior, won the 880 (2:14.7), mile (4:44.0) and two-mile (11:20.1).
GIRLS’ TRACK
Birmingham 92, North Hollywood 26--Antonia Jack, Deetra Dear and Cheri-Lee Segal each won two events to lead the Braves (3-0) in a Valley Pac-8 Conference meet at Birmingham.
Jack dashed to wins in the 100 (13.1) and 200 (27.7) and anchored Birmingham’s winning 400 relay team (52.8). Dear timed 61.0 and 2:27.5 to win the 400 and 800, respectively. Segal, 11th in the City cross-country final in November, took the 1,600 (5:37.0) and 3,200 (12:16.0).
Jacinda Sweet won the long jump (15-4) and the triple jump (30-2) for the Huskies (2-1).
SOFTBALL
Campbell Hall 16, Highland Hall 1--Junior Joanna Paul smacked two home runs, one a grand slam, in a nonleague game called after five innings at Campbell Hall (4-0) because of the 10-run rule.
Freshman right-hander Casey Cannon (3-0) pitched a one-hitter. Paul was two for four with six runs batted in.
Oak Park 4, St. Genevieve 1--Catcher Niki Rae was three for four with two RBIs and scored two runs to lead Oak Park (4-2) in a nonleague game at home.
VOLLEYBALL
Camarillo d. Thousand Oaks, 15-4, 15-6, 15-7--Outside hitter Matt Brimigion scored 15 points--including a school-record four aces--in 20 services to lead the Scorpions in a nonleague match at home. Craig Cornelius had 10 kills and Chris Sampson had 26 assists for Camarillo (3-3).
Chaminade d. Campbell Hall, 16-14, 15-8, 7-15, 15-13--Rody Alvar had 22 kills and Lars Johnson added 17 for Chaminade (4-3) in a nonleague match at Chaminade.
