PREP ROUNDUP : Whittier Christian Wins Wild One

Summer Silva hit for the cycle to lead Whittier Christian High School to an 18-11 victory over Brethren in a wild nonconference softball game Tuesday at Whittier Christian.

Brethren scored 11 runs on one hit and 16 walks.

Silva, a sophomore, was five for five with two singles, a double, a triple, a home run, and five RBIs.

In other nonleague softball games:

Canyon 4, El Dorado 0--Senetha Thomas hit a three-run home run to lead visiting Canyon (8-1).

Santa Ana 6, Westminster 3--Gracie Lopez had two hits with two RBIs for Santa Ana (5-5).

Saddleback 4, Troy 0--Veronica Hernandez pitched a one-hitter for visiting Saddleback.

Esperanza 1, Fullerton 0--Laura Barber (1-2) allowed only a seventh-inning single for visiting Esperanza (5-4).

Foothill 3, Tustin 2--Christina Mazurie had a RBI single for visiting Foothill (6-5).

Capistrano Valley 1, Woodbridge 0--Jennifer Smith (5-2) pitched a two-hitter for Capistrano Valley (6-2).

University 3, Dana Hills 1--Kristen Wilson hit a two-run home run for visiting University (5-3).

Sunny Hills 3, El Toro 1--Gina Silvestri had an RBI triple and Stacy Thurber had a two-run homer for host Sunny Hills (3-4).

In the Garden Grove League:

Kennedy 9, Rancho Alamitos 0--Junior Cheryl Longeway (5-1) pitched a perfect game and struck out 15 for visiting Kennedy.

Garden Grove 4, Santiago 0--Stephanie Smith (7-2) allowed two hits and had 14 strikeouts for host Garden Grove (7-2, 1-0).

In the Olympic League:

Orange Lutheran 12, Ontario Christian 3--Pam Marty had a single, two triples and a home run, for host Orange Lutheran (5-1, 1-0).

Santa Margarita 5, Whitney 1--Katie Beattie pitched a no-hitter for host Santa Margarita (5-0, 2-0).

In Angelus League golf:

Mater Dei 216, Bishop Montgomery 219--Mark Manion shot an even-par 36 for Mater Dei at Los Verdes golf course in Rancho Palos Verdes.

In Orange League golf:

Savanna 199, Magnolia 249--Mark Patterson and Ken Reser each shot three-over 38 for Savanna at Dad Miller.

In Sea View League golf:

Estancia 189, University 204--Ken Calvert of Estancia and David Jacobson of University each shot one-under 35 at Rancho San Joaquin in Irvine.

Corona del Mar 267, Newport Harbor 288 (12 holes)--Steve Dana shot a one-under 46 for 12 holes to lead Corona del Mar (3-3, 1-0) at Newport Beach Country Club.

In South Coast League golf:

Irvine 216, Mission Viejo 236--Matt Kyser shot three-over 39 for Irvine at Mission Viejo Country Club.

Dana Hills 388, El Toro 391--Jim Zakhar shot a one-under 71 for El Toro in 18 holes at the El Toro Marine base golf course. Dana Hills (4-0, 3-0) was led by Scott Richardson’s one-over 73.

In nonleague volleyball:

Newport Harbor 3, Marina 2--Junior Billy Nguyen had 23 kills and three ace serves and senior Ian Juberg had 15 kills and six solo blocks as Newport Harbor, unranked in the county, defeated No. 4 Marina, 15-4, 6-15, 15-7, 10-15, 15-11, at Marina. Marina is 4-1; Newport Harbor is 1-2.
