Grumbles on Gumbel: The organizers of an Atlanta sporting goods industry convention have charged that “Today” show host Bryant Gumbel dropped the ball on them. The producers of the show said in a letter to 1,700 exhibitors last week that Gumbel canceled his scheduled appearance “without cause.” A NBC spokesperson said Gumbel canceled all his speaking engagements when he was assigned in January to be the network’s main golf correspondent.
