ROUNDUP : Carlson Ties Record in High Jump

Share

Kevin Carlson of Katella High School tied the county record in the high jump Thursday with a leap of 6 feet 11 3/4 inches in an Empire League dual meet at Esperanza.

Carlson tied the record set in 1983 by Doug Dreibelbis of Foothill.

Carlson, who had cleared 6-8 1/2 this season, set the mark on his second jump. He said he wasn’t aware he had the county record.

“I got pretty lucky,” said Carlson, a 6-3 junior. “After I cleared 6-4 on my first attempt, everyone else was out (of the competition). I usually stop after that but felt good.
