11-Year-Old Suspected in Rash of Arson Fires
An 11-year-old boy has been arrested on suspicion of arson, and investigators are trying to determine whether he is responsible for a series of 16 rubbish fires set near the intersection of Parthenia Street and Van Alden Avenue within the past few months, Los Angeles Fire Department officials said Friday.
But Battalion Chief Lon Purcell said fire officials do not believe the child, who was arrested Thursday night, was involved in any of the other fires that have plagued the West San Fernando Valley over the past several months.
At least 110 arson fires, most of them set in rubbish piles or in palm trees, have hit Northridge, Reseda and Canoga Park since last October.
