Poly Secures No. 1 Seeding in City 4-A Baseball Playoffs

At times, the meeting was as confusing as trying to decipher an opposing team’s signs, but the City Section 4-A Division baseball seedings were made by a panel of coaches Wednesday night, with Poly High edging out El Camino Real for the No. 1 berth.

Poly (22-3, 17-0 in league play), the East Valley League champion, will play host to the winner of a wild-card game in the first round May 18.

El Camino Real (17-2-1, 14-1-1), the West Valley champion, also will play host to a wild-card winner in the first round.

The winner of today’s North Valley League game between San Fernando (15-6-2, 10-5-1) and visiting Kennedy (16-8, 11-5) will be seeded third and will play host to San Pedro in the first round. The North Valley runner-up will play Venice at a site to be determined.

Birmingham (18-6-1, 12-5), the Mid-Valley League champion, will play host to Sylmar (16-9, 10-7), the East Valley runner-up.

Chatsworth (19-5-1, 11-4-1), the second-place team in the West Valley League, will play host to Carson (10-4-2 in league play), the Pacific League runner-up.

Monroe (10-10, 8-9), the runner-up in the Mid-Valley, will play at University, which won the Western League with a 15-2 mark.

In Wednesday’s wild-card games, the winner of today’s North Valley League showdown between Cleveland and host Granada Hills--each team has four wins in league play--will visit North Hollywood. Reseda will play at Taft.

Taft (10-13-1, 6-9-1) was seeded first in the wild-card games, followed by North Hollywood (9-11, 7-10), the winner between Cleveland (5-14, 4-12) and Granada Hills (6-15-2, 4-10-2), and Reseda (5-15, 5-12).

Poly will play host to the lowest-seeded wild-card winner and El Camino Real will play host to the second-lowest seeded winner in first-round games.
