HIGH SCHOOL SOFTBALL PLAYOFFS : Blint’s Double Lifts Oak Park to 1-A Division Victory, 5-3

Victoria Blint doubled home the go-ahead run in the sixth inning as Oak Park High defeated Calabasas, 5-3, in a Southern Section 1-A Division playoff game Wednesday at Oak Park.

After Blint’s double broke a 3-3 tie, Julie Rodgers added a run-scoring infield single for Oak Park (16-7). Blint was three for three and Marcy Reed was two for three.

Oak Park will play Paraclete at 3 p.m. on Friday.

CITY SECTION 4-A DIVISION

San Fernando 4, Carson 0--Chris Ramirez and Martha Cruz each drove in two runs and Denise Mendoza tossed a three-hitter as San Fernando (15-6) advanced to the semifinals.

Chatsworth 4, Sylmar 2--Mara Phillips was four for four and Becky Perry added a run-scoring double to lead visiting Chatsworth (12-5). Chatsworth will meet San Fernando in the semifinals Wednesday at South Gate.

Cleveland 14, Granada Hills 4--Rachel Thomas and Michelle Brown each had two hits to lead host Cleveland, which will meet El Camino Real in the semifinals.

CITY SECTION 3-A DIVISION

Poly 21, Verdugo Hills 4--Jodi Soto (15-4) hit a grand slam and tossed a five-hitter as Poly (15-5), which took advantage of 17 walks, advanced to the semifinals for the second consecutive year. Tracy Bell added a solo home run and Kristie Faehnle’s two-run triple keyed a three-run first inning.
