CITY SECTION ROUNDUP : Kennedy Knocks Off Venice, 13-2

Led by seniors Denny Sharp, Lazaro Campos, Garret Anderson and Jason Rosen, defending City Section 4-A Division champion Kennedy High routed Venice, 13-2, Friday in a first-round baseball playoff game at Venice.

Sharp, a left-hander who improved to 8-4, tossed a four-hitter, struck out 12 and walked nine. Anderson, who two weeks ago hit three home runs against Cleveland, belted two more against Venice to give him eight for the season.

Rosen hit a two-run homer and drove in four runs and Campos was three for five with three runs batted in. Troy Bourne, Palmer Drain and Rich Trujillo each added two hits for Kennedy.

Kennedy (17-9) will play on the road against North Valley League rival San Fernando on Wednesday in the second round.

San Fernando defeated San Pedro, 8-1, Friday.

In other 4-A games:

Chatsworth 6, Carson 1--Senior right-hander Reed McMackin (11-2) threw a five-hitter as host Chatsworth (21-5-1) advanced to the second round against Palisades.

McMackin (11-2) struck out two and Carson (14-7-2) had just one fly-ball out.

Chatsworth snapped a scoreless tie with a four-run third inning. Adam Pearlman doubled, moved to third on a bunt single by Scott Carpenter and scored on a sacrifice fly by Nestor Martinez.

Mike Mancuso singled home Carpenter and Mitch Root followed with a two-run homer.

San Fernando 8, San Pedro 1--John Najar and Canto Franco limited visiting San Pedro to three hits, and San Fernando turned three double plays.

Fernando Ortega and Luis Rodriguez each hit two-run doubles in the fifth inning for San Fernando (17-6-2).
