COMMUNITY COLLEGE STATE SOFTBALL : West Valley’s Mays Stops Golden West

Stacey Mays pitched a three-hitter to lead top-ranked West Valley College to a 1-0 victory over Golden West in the first round of the state community college softball championships in Sunnyvale.
Mays (35-2) struck out 11 and walked two for West Valley (40-2). She also drove in the game’s only run with a double in the second inning.
Golden West (33-15) plays Cypress today at 10 in a second-round game of the double-elimination tournament.
In another tournament game:
Ohlone 3, Cypress 0--Heather DeMuth pitched a seven-hitter for Ohlone (42-9). Cypress (40-7) had runners in scoring position in five innings but failed to score.
