Oklahoma State already is hitting like a championship team. Saturday, the Cowboys have a chance to become one.

The Cowboys pounded seven Louisiana State pitchers for 19 hits and rode a six-run sixth-inning to a 14-3 victory Thursday night in the College World Series.

Third-seeded Oklahoma State advanced to the title game Saturday against the winner of tonight’s game between top-seeded Stanford and fourth-seeded Georgia. LSU was eliminated.

“I felt like was pitching against the Oakland A’s,” said LSU starter Paul Byrd, who was rocked for 10 hits and seven runs in 5 2/3 innings.

Bobby Carlsen hit a record-tying three doubles and drove in three runs for Oklahoma State (56-16).

Danny Perez had three singles and drove in three runs and Michael Daniel started the sixth with a game-tying homer. Oklahoma State has 35 runs and 46 hits in three series games.

“There’s a certain amount of baseball luck involved and there’s a certain amount of execution involved,” Oklahoma State Coach Gary Ward said. “I’ve got good athletes and they make me look like a good coach.”

Gordie Tipton (10-1), a former reliever, stopped LSU (54-19) on four hits through eight innings while striking out seven. He has won all seven of his starts since becoming a starter late in April.

“We feel bad that we didn’t perform better,” LSU Coach Skip Bertman.

Oklahoma State won the national championship in 1959 and finished second in 1961, 1966, 1981 and 1987. Only USC (12), Arizona State (9) and Texas (8) have made more championship game appearances than the Cowboys.
