SPORTS BRIEFS : 605 All-Star Game Is Set for Saturday

605 Game: The 23rd annual 605 All-Star Football game, featuring seniors from 36 area high schools, will be played Saturday night at 7:30 at Cerritos College in Norwalk.

The game had been in jeopardy after the La Mirada Kiwanis Club dropped out as the sponsor, but Cerritos College and Taco Bell agreed to put on the contest.

Among the players in the game, which matches schools on opposite sides of the San Gabriel River (605) Freeway, will be Travis Carter of Glenn, Randy Donisthorpe of Gahr, Puna Peko of Whittier, DeMario Vaughn of Wilson, Sal Mejico of Cerritos, Charles Levy of Lynwood, Ray Maldonado of Montebello, Malculm Hunt of Dominguez, Andre Green of Poly and Mike De La Cruz of Paramount.

Tickets are $5, and the game will be televised by Continental Cable.

Bobby Sox Shine: The Cerritos Bobby Sox, led by the pitching of Cindy Rivero and Monique Roussell, finished second in a recent fast-pitch softball invitational tournament in Las Vegas.

Cerritos won three of five games in the tournament, which was composed of 10 teams from California, Arizona and Nevada.

Bobby Sox is a softball organization for girls ages 6 to 18.

Kickoff Party: The annual kickoff party of the Long Beach Bruins--a 750-member UCLA alumni organization--will be July 28 at noon at the 555 East Restaurant and Bar, 555 Ocean Blvd. The guest speaker will be Ted Williams, an assistant UCLA football coach. For more information, call 429-6527.
