The director for the Great American Bank Tennis tournament said that Steffi Graf will be playing in the San Diego event Aug. 6-12 despite published reports that she would take a month off after a sinus operation in Heidelberg, West Germany, last Friday.

Jane Stratton said Graf’s agent, Philip de Picciotto of Advantage International, confirmed Graf would compete in the event after the Players’ Canadian Open in Montreal July 30-Aug. 5. Graf has pulled out of the Federation Cup team event in Atlanta starting July 23.

Graf said at Wimbledon that she had planned the operation for the end of the year but was persuaded by doctors to seek an earlier solution to the sinus problem that had troubled her for some time.
