The Florida Athletic Commission is investigating the management team of Olympic silver medalist Roy Jones Jr. in connection with an impostor Jones knocked out July 14 during a fight at Pensacola, Fla., the panel’s chairman says.

State Attorney Curtis Golden has filed fraud charges against the manager for Anthony Waddles, the boxer who impersonated another fighter, and a matchmaker.

Golden has found no evidence of criminal wrongdoing by Square Ring Inc., a Pensacola company that manages Jones, but the Athletic Commission is looking into possible non-criminal violations, Chairman Richard Wittcoff said.

Waddles, 19, of Norman, Okla., a loser in his only three professional fights, allegedly posed as Derwin Richards of Houston, the junior middleweight champion of Texas.

Jones, 21, knocked out the impostor at 2:02 of the first round of the fight in Pensacola, Jones’ hometown, to run his record to 9-0. Officials didn’t realize the floored boxer wasn’t Richards until two days later.

Waddles is cooperating with authorities and has not been charged with any crime.
