Gas Line Rupture Disrupts Traffic in Brentwood Area

Share

A 26-inch gas main ruptured Saturday afternoon in Brentwood, prompting closure of Sepulveda Boulevard for several hours, officials said.

Gas company workers and Los Angeles Fire Department units were at the leak site, 598 N. Sepulveda Blvd., fire spokesman Pat Marek said. Repairs were expected to take several hours.

Marek said there were no evacuations, but area residents were told to remain inside their homes until the leak was closed off.

Authorities believe the rupture occurred while Department of Water and Power workers were repairing the line. Flow of gas to the affected line was shut off and there was no danger of an explosion, fire officials said.

Officials closed Sepulveda between Casiano Road and Morago Drive, and blocked off two San Diego Freeway ramps--the Morago Drive off-ramp from the northbound lanes and the Getty Center Drive off-ramp from the southbound lanes. The roads reopened about 6:30 p.m., when the leak was totally under control.
