Huber Seeded 3rd in National 16s

La Jolla’s Ditta Huber, 14, is the third-seeded player in the Girls National 16s Tennis Tournament which begins at 9 a.m. today at Morley Field.

Huber meets unseeded Lonna Logan of Stuart, Fla., at 4:30 today and top-seeded Lindsay Davenport, 14, of Palos Verdes, meets unseeded Preety Sorathia of Vorhees, N.J. Seventh-seeded Lee Ann Rostovsky of La Jolla plays J.C. Biber of Spartanburg, S. C. at 1:30.

Defending San Diego Section singles champion Nikki Willette and Nicole Elliott, both unseeded, are the other San Diegans competing. Finals are Saturday at Morley Field.

DIVING

Monte Vista graduate Kristen Walls, now a sophomore at UCLA, finished second in one-meter diving and third from the three-meter in the Western Zone Preliminary Diving Championships at the Santa Clara International Swim Center.

The top four divers qualify for the Senior Outdoor Diving Championships, Aug. 15-19 at Southern Methodist University. Walls sister, Juli, a senior at Grossmont, finished 15th on the one-meter.

SOCCER

The San Diego Nomads dropped a 2-1 game in overtime to the California Emperors of Redlands in an American Professional Soccer League West game at Southwestern College. The Emperors’ Jerry O’Hara scored at 16:25, followed by the Nomad’s Arturo Velazco at 44:30, with an assist by Jerome Watson. Alex D’Olivira scored at 1:09 in overtime to improve California, the newest APSL expansion team, to 9-10. The Nomads dropped to 7-11 and will meet the Los Angeles Heat today in Los Angeles.
